Amlwch is a historic port town on the northern coast of the Isle of Anglesey. The town grew rapidly during the eighteenth century following the development of the nearby Parys Mountain copper mines, which became one of the world's most productive copper-mining areas. Amlwch Harbour developed as an important industrial port for exporting copper and importing materials.

The historical and tourist significance of the town

Parys Mountain is the defining industrial heritage site associated with Amlwch. Its unusual red and orange landscape records centuries of copper extraction and provides a remarkable insight into the industrial history of Anglesey. The historic harbour and town centre contain further evidence of Amlwch's maritime and mining prosperity.

The surrounding Anglesey coast is known for rugged cliffs, secluded beaches and rich wildlife. The Anglesey Coastal Path provides opportunities for walking and birdwatching, while nearby attractions include Cemaes Bay, Bull Bay and the South Stack area.

Food and shopping

Amlwch has cafés, restaurants, traditional pubs, bakeries, supermarkets and independent local shops. Welsh seafood, lamb, cheeses and locally produced ingredients feature strongly in the island's cuisine. Spring through autumn is particularly suitable for exploring Parys Mountain and the coastal path, while the town's mining and maritime heritage remains significant throughout the year.
