Annfield Plain is a small town in County Durham, situated between Stanley and Consett in the former Durham coalfield. The settlement grew largely through the expansion of coal mining and related industries during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The closure of the local collieries brought major changes to the community and surrounding landscape.
