Bow is a historic district in East London within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The area has medieval origins and became increasingly urbanised during the nineteenth century as London expanded eastwards, developing a strong working-class and industrial identity. Bow has undergone substantial regeneration in recent decades while retaining many historic streets, Victorian buildings and community landmarks. Its position between the City of London, Stratford and the River Lea places it at the centre of a rapidly changing part of the capital.

The historical and tourist importance of the district

Bow Church is one of the area's best-known historic landmarks, while the surrounding streets contain examples of Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Victoria Park, immediately north of Bow, is one of East London's largest and most attractive public parks and provides extensive walking, boating and recreational opportunities. The nearby Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park contains the major venues of the 2012 Olympic Games as well as modern parks, waterways and viewpoints. The Regent's Canal and Hertford Union Canal also provide scenic walking and cycling routes through the district.

Food and shopping

Bow has a diverse selection of cafés, restaurants, pubs, bakeries and independent food businesses reflecting the multicultural character of East London. Nearby Roman Road is particularly known for its traditional market, independent shops and local businesses. Late spring through early autumn is ideal for exploring Victoria Park, the canals and the Olympic Park, while the area's museums and cultural attractions remain accessible throughout the year. Bow is especially convenient for visitors interested in London's East End heritage and contemporary urban development.
