Bradford is a major city in West Yorkshire situated at the edge of the Pennines. The city became one of the world's most important textile manufacturing centres during the Industrial Revolution, particularly through wool and worsted production. The wealth generated by the textile industry created imposing Victorian buildings, mills and civic institutions that continue to define much of the city's character. Bradford is also known for its highly diverse population and rich cultural life. Spring through autumn are particularly suitable for exploring the city centre, industrial heritage sites and surrounding Yorkshire countryside.

The historical and tourist importance of the city

Saltaire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site just outside Bradford, is one of the finest surviving examples of a planned Victorian industrial settlement. The Bradford Industrial Museum preserves important evidence of the city's textile and engineering history, while Cartwright Hall houses significant art collections in the attractive Lister Park. Bradford Cathedral and the city's Victorian civic buildings provide further architectural interest. The National Science and Media Museum is a major visitor attraction dedicated to photography, film, television and digital media. The surrounding Bronte Country and Pennine landscapes offer excellent opportunities for walking and scenic excursions.

Food and leisure

Bradford has a particularly diverse food culture, with South Asian cuisine playing a major role alongside British, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and other international traditions. The city is well known for its curry restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops and independent food businesses. Visitors can combine dining with shopping in the city centre, exploring the historic textile districts or visiting Saltaire and the surrounding countryside.
