New Quay, known in Welsh as Ceinewydd, is a historic seaside town on the west coast of Wales in Ceredigion. The town developed around its harbour and maritime activities before becoming increasingly popular as a Victorian seaside resort. Its position overlooking Cardigan Bay provides spectacular coastal views and has made the town particularly attractive to visitors interested in beaches and marine wildlife. New Quay is also closely associated with the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Ceredigion coast.

The historical and tourist importance of the town

New Quay Harbour and its surrounding beaches are the town's principal attractions, with colourful boats and traditional buildings creating a distinctive coastal setting. Cardigan Bay is famous for its population of bottlenose dolphins, and boat trips from New Quay provide opportunities to see dolphins, seals and seabirds. The Ceredigion Coast Path passes through the area and offers excellent walking routes along cliffs, beaches and secluded coves. Nearby Cardigan, Aberaeron and the National Trust property Llanerchaeron provide further opportunities to explore the history and landscapes of west Wales.

Food and when to visit

New Quay has cafés, seafood restaurants, traditional pubs, ice-cream shops and small independent businesses, with fresh fish and local Welsh produce particularly popular. The harbour and seafront are well suited to relaxed meals overlooking Cardigan Bay. Late spring through early autumn is the best time for boat trips, dolphin watching, coastal walks and enjoying the beaches, while the area remains attractive during quieter months for walking and scenic drives. New Quay is an excellent coastal stop when travelling between Aberaeron and Cardigan along the Ceredigion coast.
