Clydach is a village in the Swansea Valley within the City and County of Swansea. The settlement developed alongside the industrial growth of the valley, particularly through coal mining, metalworking and the development of transport routes along the River Tawe. The surrounding hills and river landscapes retain traces of this industrial past while providing an increasingly important recreational setting. Clydach today is primarily residential but remains closely connected to the industrial and cultural history of the Swansea Valley.

The historical and tourist importance of the area

The River Tawe and surrounding wooded hills provide opportunities for walking, cycling and exploring the valley landscape. The Swansea Canal passes through the area and forms part of a historic waterway network associated with the valley's industrial development. Nearby Craig-y-Nos Country Park and the Brecon Beacons provide access to dramatic mountain scenery, while Swansea city centre and the waterfront offer museums, galleries, beaches and cultural attractions. The wider Lower Swansea Valley also contains numerous sites connected with the region's industrial heritage.

Food and when to visit

Clydach has local cafés, pubs, restaurants and shops, with a wider selection available in Swansea and the larger settlements of the valley. Welsh produce, seafood and traditional dishes are widely available throughout the region. Late spring through early autumn is particularly suitable for exploring the valley, canal and surrounding countryside, while Swansea's cultural attractions provide year-round activities. Clydach is best suited to travellers combining access to Swansea with the quieter landscapes of the upper Swansea Valley.
