Fowey is a small and picturesque harbour town on the south coast of Cornwall, situated at the mouth of the River Fowey. The town has a long maritime history and developed as an important port for trade, fishing and the export of local minerals. Its steep streets, historic buildings and sheltered estuary have made Fowey one of Cornwall's most attractive coastal destinations.

The historical and tourist significance of the town

Fowey's waterfront, historic streets and harbour are at the heart of the visitor experience. The town is closely associated with author Daphne du Maurier, who lived in the area and drew inspiration from its landscapes. Nearby attractions include Readymoney Cove, Fowey Estuary, Polruan and the scenic South West Coast Path, while the Eden Project is also within convenient reach.

Food and local life

Fowey has an excellent selection of seafood restaurants, cafés, traditional pubs, bakeries and independent shops. Fresh fish, Cornish crab, locally caught seafood and Cornish pasties are among the regional specialities. Summer is the busiest period, particularly when the annual Fowey Regatta takes place, while spring and early autumn offer a quieter experience with pleasant coastal weather.
