Gatehouse of Fleet is a small historic town in Dumfries and Galloway, situated beside the River Fleet close to the Solway Firth. The town developed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as an industrial settlement, with cotton manufacturing and other industries benefiting from the river and surrounding agricultural landscape. Its attractive streets and stone buildings reflect this period of prosperity.

Cardoness Castle, a well-preserved medieval tower house overlooking the Fleet estuary, is one of the area's principal attractions.
