The palace has disappeared, but the village retains historic buildings and a traditional centre. Its position beside the River Gade and Grand Union Canal adds to its rural character.

The historical and tourist importance of the village

St Mary's Church is one of Kings Langley's principal historic landmarks and contains surviving evidence of the village's medieval past. The Grand Union Canal passes through the surrounding countryside and provides attractive walking and cycling routes. Nearby attractions include the historic town of Berkhamsted and its Norman castle, while Cassiobury Park in Watford offers extensive parkland and woodland. The Chiltern Hills are also within easy reach for walking and scenic drives.

Food and when to visit

Kings Langley has village shops, cafés, restaurants and traditional pubs, with additional shopping and dining facilities available in Watford and Hemel Hempstead. Hertfordshire produce and traditional British dishes feature prominently in the local food scene. Late spring through early autumn is particularly pleasant for exploring the canal, river valley and surrounding countryside, while the village's historic sites can be enjoyed throughout the year.
