Loweswater is a small settlement and valley in Cumbria, within the western Lake District. The area is centred on Loweswater lake and lies among the fells west of Crummock Water and Buttermere. The historical and tourist importance of the area
Loweswater lake is the principal natural attraction, surrounded by woodland and fell scenery with views towards Burnbank Fell and the surrounding mountains. The Loweswater and Crummock Water valleys provide numerous walking routes, ranging from gentle lakeside paths to challenging fell walks. Nearby Scale Force, one of the Lake District's highest waterfalls, is accessible from the Buttermere area. The western fells also offer excellent opportunities for photography, birdwatching and wildlife observation.

Loweswater has very limited shops and services, although traditional pubs and rural inns in the surrounding valleys provide opportunities for meals and refreshments. Visitors generally use nearby Cockermouth or Keswick for larger shopping requirements. Late spring through early autumn is ideal for walking and enjoying the lakes and fells, while autumn brings particularly attractive woodland colours. Loweswater is best suited to visitors seeking quiet Lake District scenery, hiking and rural landscapes.
