Pershore is a historic market town in Worcestershire, situated on the River Avon in the fertile Vale of Evesham. The town grew around Pershore Abbey, which has medieval origins and remains the dominant landmark in the centre. Agriculture and fruit growing have long been important to the local economy, with the surrounding countryside particularly associated with orchards. Today Pershore is the administrative centre of Wychavon and combines a traditional market-town atmosphere with a picturesque riverside setting.

The historical and tourist importance of the town

Pershore Abbey is the town's principal attraction, with its impressive Norman and later architecture reflecting the importance of the medieval monastery. The historic centre contains Georgian buildings, independent shops and traditional streets leading towards the River Avon. Abbey Park provides attractive gardens and riverside walks, while the Vale of Evesham is particularly beautiful during the spring blossom season. Nearby destinations include Broadway, the Cotswolds, Worcester, Evesham and the Malvern Hills.

Food and when to visit

Pershore has cafés, tearooms, restaurants, traditional pubs, bakeries and independent shops, with Worcestershire produce and locally grown fruit widely represented. The surrounding Vale of Evesham is especially known for asparagus, apples, plums and other seasonal produce. Spring is an excellent time to visit because the orchards around the town are often covered in blossom, while summer and early autumn are ideal for exploring the countryside. Pershore is a pleasant stop on routes through Worcestershire and the northern Cotswolds.
